Welcome to Swapnadeep Beach Resort for Mahalaxmi Temple, Kelshi

The temples situated in the scenic areas of Konkan are truly unique. These temples which are neat, and vivacious have been a revered place for many generations of devotees. These temples have been situated on the hills of Konkan, on the banks of the rivers and in the green dense forest for centuries. Similarly, a temple of Mahalaxmi Mandir is situated at the foot of Utambar hill, on dense green background of the valley, on the southern tip of Kelshi village. The architecture of the temple is from the Peshwa period.
The beautiful temple architecture stands out on the background of the green dense valley. At the main entrance of the temple, a special Nagarkhana has been built for playing the clarinets and the entire temple is surrounded by an 8-10 feet stone wall. The temple has two domes wherein one dome contains a natural shaped stone representing Goddess Mahalaxmi and the other dome contains a place for prayers. In the evening, devotees automatically linger in the temple to hear the soothing music of the clarinets.
A big festival (Utsav) of Goddess is celebrated here in the first month (Chaitra) of the Hindu calendar. This festival is famous all over Maharashtra. The atmosphere in the temple during Navaratri is found to be very pleasant and festive as it is the festival of Goddesses. The temple is decorated with bright beautiful lights and the various traditional programs such as Gondhal, Kirtan and a Chariot procession “Ratha yatra” take place in the temple during festive seasons.
The Mahalaxmi Temple of Kelshi was built in the Peshwa regime in the year 1808. It is believed that the idol is a Swayambhu. That means the idol appeared all by itself. Localites celebrate festivals in this temple and many tourists visit Kelshi specially to see Mahalaxmi temple. The temple is located at the base of the Utambare hill. The temple also has idols of Lord Ganesh and Lord Shiva.
